LOS ANGELES –
Santiago Hinojosa and
Mann Shah each picked up singles wins to bring Santa Clara men's tennis to within 3-2 on the team score, however, Lucas Moreno clinched the match to give LMU a 5-2 conference win on Sunday.
LMU (2-0, 2-0 WCC) picked up the doubles point when Mayo Keenan and Ethan Prost beat Shah and
Nick Cmager on court two, 6-2, after Diego Nava and Thien Nguyen took care of
Arthur Neuhaus and
Vasileios Iliopoulos 6-3 on court one.
The Lions went up 3-0 on singles wins by Nava over Neuhaus 6-1, 6-2 on court two and Keenan beat
Jesus Tapiador Barajas 6-0, 6-2 on court one.
Santa Clara (0-2, 0-2 WCC) got on the scoreboard when Shah defeated Max Kaiser 6-1, 6-1 on court four to earn his first career win for the freshman mid-year enrollee.
Hinojosa handled Prost in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 to close the gap to 3-2 but the match clincher came on court three when Moreno took down Iliopoulos 7-6, 6-3.
With the match outcome decided,
Nick Cmager and Nguyen played out their singles match on court six where Nguyen triumphed in three sets 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 to give the Lions a 5-2 win.
The Broncos will return to Los Angeles on Saturday for the NCAA Kick Off Weekend National Indoor tournament.
