DAVIS, Calif. – Sophomore transfer Alexander Watanabe Eriksson won the Flight B singles championship and graduate student Matthew Rodriguez was a Flight C singles finalist at the Aggie Invitational in a strong showing for the Santa Clara men's tennis team to kick off the 2023-24 fall season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Santa Clara had a split squad this weekend with four players - Alexander Watanabe Eriksson, Arjun Honnappa, Lukas Maskow and Matthew Rodriguez - participating in the Aggie Invitational and Guillaume Dalmasso and Christian Lerby set to play at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma starting on Monday.
• Over the course of three days at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by UC Davis, the Broncos won a total of 10 matches, picking up seven singles and three doubles victories. 
• Watanabe Eriksson led the way going 4-0 in singles play including defeating Brett Brinkman in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, to capture the Flight B championship.  Watanabe Eriksson also went 2-2 in doubles partnering with Honnappa.
• Rodriguez won two singles matches to advance to the Flight C finals before falling to Ivan Savkin in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. 

NEXT UP:

• Guillaume Dalmasso and Christian Lerby play at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma starting on Monday.
