No. 16 Broncos Go 2-0 On Final Day In SoCal

RIVERSIDE, Calif.  – No. 16 Santa Clara men's water polo put a cap on their successful weekend in Southern California by going a perfect 2-0 on the final day of action at The Joust. The Broncos took down Biola 11-5 and Fresno Pacific 14-6 to finish the co-hosted tournament 3-0 and the trip as a whole 3-1 with the lone loss coming 15-14 against No. 15 Cal Baptist.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Billy Barry led the offensive charge against Biola with a four-goal outing. Zach Fales added a hat trick while Gojko Kapovic and Bennett Stafford had two goals apiece. 
  • The Broncos had a slow start, leading just 4-2 at the halftime break, but pounced for three scores in the third and four more in the fourth to cruise to the 11-6 victory. 
  • Fales also tallied a game-high three assists to finish with six points in the winning effort. 
  • Harrison Labrosse was tasked with defending the net and played extremely well with 11 blocks against six goals allowed.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Building off his career-best performance in yesterday's game against Redlands, Gavin Fisher once again put on a show with four more goals and an assist for five points against the Sunbirds. 
  • Michael Krienkamp, Fales and Stafford each scored two in the rout. 
  • John Shepherd came away with a game-best three steals and had two assists. 
  • Owen Van Stralen got the start in the net and made six saves with a pair of assists in the victory. 
  • The Broncos had no problems with finding the back of the net, jumping out to 5-1 lead after one and 9-2 advantage at the half. 

NEXT UP:
  • The Broncos (9-7, 0-1) will take on their crosstown rival San Jose State on Thursday, Oct. 12, in San Jose.
