Men’s Tennis Signs World Top-200 Junior Ranked Player

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's tennis program added yet another top world junior ranked player in Luca Lemaitre from Mérida, Mexico who signed his National-Letter-of-Intent.  He will be part of the Broncos as a mid-year enrollee for the upcoming spring 2024 season.

Lemaitre reached a career-high ITF junior world ranking of 165 and joins recent signees Luca Bluett and Tiago Boschmans who are both ranked in the top-300.

"I chose Santa Clara because it is a very prestigious academic institution, in addition to being in one of the best locations in the entire United States with a beautiful campus," said Lemaitre.

Santa Clara assistant coach Edson Ortiz was instrumental in luring Lemaitre to the Mission Campus serving as the lead recruiter.

"We are extremely excited to add Luca to the Bronco family," said Ortiz.  "He is going to bring talent, character, passion, and personality to the team.  His success in juniors proves that he is a great player and we can't wait to see him compete with the rest of the team."

Lemaitre is coached by his uncle Alain Lemaitre and father Yves Lemaitre who both played on the ATP Tour and reached rankings of 344th and 596th, respectively.

The 5-foot-11 Luca has one singles and two ITF J100 doubles titles to his credit along with placing third at the 2021 Junior Davis Cup.

"I am delighted to announce the final player of our roster for the upcoming dual match season," said Broncos head coach Niall Angus.  "Luca is a hardworking and talented player that will make an immediate impact for us on both the singles and doubles court. He has a tremendous amount of potential and I am looking forward to starting our work with him on the court in January."
