MALIBU, Calif. - Santa Clara fought hard but fell short against Cal Baptist in the first round of the West Coast Conference Championship Tournament, losing 11-9. This loss knocks the Broncos out of the conference tournament. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• The Broncos started down 1-4 after the first period with the solo goal by WCC First-Team honoree Zach Fales and the assist from Bennett Stafford.

• Within the fourth minute of the second period, Billy Barry and Fales scored, closing the gap to 4-6. The second half ended with the Broncos trailing 4-7.

• Offense was strong for both sides, with Gojko Kapovic, Cody Ferguson, and Chase Raisin all scoring in the third period. The third finished with the Broncos trailing 7-11.

• Santa Clara dominated on both sides of the ball in the fourth, holding CBU scoreless while adding three points to their scoreboard.

• Freshman Harrison Labrosse made 10 saves and three steals in the matchup. 

• The Broncos out-shot the Lancers 31-25, but it wasn't enough to take the lead. Santa Clara fell 9-11, resulting in their elimination from the rest of the conference tournament and concluding the 2023 season.
