SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis signed Payton Jim On, a two-time state singles champion from Hawaii, to join the program for the 2024-25 season.
"I chose Santa Clara because it offers excellent academics and it puts me in an area to excel in any profession," said Jim On. "Santa Clara's facilities are very modern and the campus seems like a place that I can comfortably call home for my college years. Also, it is a very well-known school in Hawaii so having the opportunity to attend SCU is a big privilege that I didn't want to pass up."
The left-hander attends Punahou School in Honolulu where he was crowned Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Singles Champion in 2022 and 2023. Jim On holds the record for the least amount of games dropped in a state championship with three games.
A two-time National High School All-American, Jim On appeared in the USTA National Championship in 2022 and in the USTA National Clay Court Championship the same year as well as in 2023.
"From the moment that Payton stepped on campus for his official visit, I knew he had all the characteristics of a Santa Clara Bronco," said Broncos head coach
Niall Angus. "His humble nature and his tenacious on court spirit form the foundation of his character as an athlete. Payton has a high upside to his tennis and a good fundamental understanding of his game style. I am excited to see his development once he settles into our program."
