No. 19 Broncos Back On Winning Track

Box Score PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 19 Santa Clara men's water polo got back on the winning track on the final day of the Princeton Invitational. The Broncos took down LIU in a 17-6 final to leave the Garden State on a high note. Santa Clara concluded their time at the tournament with a 2-2 record to improve to 4-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The goals were aplenty as the Broncos had no issue in finding the back of the net. They jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the opening quarter, but really found their stride in ensuing period, scoring four unanswered to take a 7-1 lead into the half.
  • The scoring barrage continued into the final 16 minutes of action. The Broncos grabbed a double-digit lead late in the third quarter that they would hold on to for the remainder of the game.
  • Redshirt sophomore Owen Van Stralen got the starting nod at keeper and put up a wall that LIU struggled to find success against from start to finish. The Orinda, Calif., product notched eight blocks and also had a steal and assist.
  • 11 different Broncos chipped in on the scoring effort led by hat tricks from senior Chase Raisin and freshman Grant Roesch. Reece Jenican and Harrison Villella tacked on a pair of goals each.
  • Gojko Kapovic was the leading assist man once again with four on the day to go with a goal and a pair of steals. Kyto Fraley added two assists of his own.

NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • 16 – The Broncos tallied 16 total steals.
  • 3 - Roesch's three goals was the most of his young career.
  • 8 - The Broncos had a stretch where they scored eight unanswered goals through the first to third periods

NEXT UP:
  • Santa Clara (4-2) will host their first home game of the year on Saturday, Sept. 16, against UC Davis. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
