SANTA CLARA, Calif.  – No. 19 Santa Clara men's water polo's 2023 home opener started promising, but ultimately the Broncos were unable to pull off the win over No. 8 UC Davis as the Aggies pulled ahead for an 18-10 victory. Santa Clara drops to 4-3 on the year with the setback. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Broncos fared well in the opening period as Gojko Kapovich scored a pair and Cody Ferguson and Billy Barry tacked on another goal each to keep the score tight early. Santa Clara trailed just 5-4 after the period.
• UC Davis (6-2) quickly took control in the second period, mounting an 11-6 advantage. The lead grew to 14-9 after the third and the Aggies finished off the outscoring the Broncos 4-1 in the final period. 
• Kapovic lead the Bronco offense with four total goals on the day.

• Santa Clara returns to action next weekend at the MPSF Tournament in Los Angeles.
