Box Score STANFORD, Calif. – No. 14 Santa Clara men's water polo gave a great effort, but ultimately was unable to keep up with No. 4 Stanford, falling to the Cardinal, 20-11, on Friday evening. The Broncos dropped to 6-6 on the season, but will have four opportunities to get back above .500 next weekend at the Lancer Invite in Riverside.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Stanford (9-4) jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and led 11-5 at the half.
- Gojko Kapovic scored out of the gate to start the third period, but the Cardinal tacked on to their lead to take a 17-6 advantage into the final period. The Broncos scored four in the fourth quarter, but the game was out of reach for any hopes of a comeback.
- Kapovic, Zach Fales and Bennett Stafford each scored a pair of goals to lead the Bronco scoring attack.
- Harrison Labrosse got the start at goalie and made five stops.
- Stanford was led by Jackson Painter's five goals.

- Santa Clara is heading south to Riverside where they will take on Cal Baptist in the team's first conference game of the season on Thursday, Oct. 5, before taking part in the Lancer Invite throughout the weekend.
