SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis swept the West Coast Conference Players of the Week honors following Sunday's 4-3 comeback victory over Cal.
Luca Lemaitre was named WCC Singles Player of the Week while
Sebastian Buxman and
Arjun Honnappa took home the WCC Doubles Team of the Week honors.
Lemaitre, a freshman mid-year enrollee playing in his first collegiate match, recorded the 3-all clincher to close out Santa Clara's win in the dual match season opener. The Broncos trailed 3-1 in the match but strung together three-straight singles wins capped off by Lemaitre's three-set victory over Jonathan Irwanto 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) on court four.
Buxman and Honnappa clinched the critical doubles point on court three to kick start things for the Broncos defeating Alex Chang and Timofey Stepanov 7-6 (8-6) after the two schools split the first two doubles matches.
Lemaitre, Buxman and Honnappa are all in their first seasons with the Broncos and as such, the first WCC honors for each of them.
The Broncos are scheduled to next play Saint Mary's in a nonconference match on Wednesday in Moraga.
