BERKELEY and LIVERMORE, Calif. – A Santa Clara women's tennis split squad started play at both the ITA Northwest Regional Championships and at the Academy of Art Hidden Dual on Friday.  Both tournaments will run at least through the weekend with possibility of the ITA Championships extending out to next week.  

At the ITA Championships in Berkeley, California, Tian Yu Dong won both a doubles and a singles match.  While at the Academy of Art Hidden Dual in Livermore, California, a total of four schools - Santa Clara, Academy of Art, Dominican and Stanislaus State - lined up and played similar to a spring season team dual match but with no team scoring and the results only counting towards individual player records.  In such format, the Broncos won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• At the ITA Regionals, Dong and Jillian Roa won their qualifying draw round of 64 doubles match when Olivia Rook and Iman Khan retired.  The Broncos duo was ahead 5-2 when the Saint Mary's tandem retired. 
• Dong also won her qualifying round of 64 singles match 7-5, 6-4 over Sacramento State's Palina Saulevich before falling to Gonzaga's Brooke Bittner 7-5, 6-3 in the round of 32.  
• At the Hidden Dual, Jamie Pope, Juliette Krumholz and Olivia Wiese each won their doubles and singles matches.  
• In singles, the Broncos faced the Stanislaus State lineup and in doubles, they faced the Dominican lineup.  

NEXT UP:

• The Broncos continue play at the ITA Regional Championships and the Academy of Art Hidden Dual on Saturday.
