No. 17 Men's Water Polo Falls at No. 5 Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. — The No. 17 Santa Clara University men's water polo team kept Friday's West Coast Conference road game close early on, but host and No. 5-ranked Pacific pulled away in the second period and held on for a 13-5 win at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool at the Douglass M. Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • No. 5 Pacific (16-1, 4-0 WCC) opened the scoring with a goal from Mihailo Vukazic 46 seconds into the game, followed by contributions from Matthew Hosmer, who netted three goals, and Reuel D'Souza, who also had three. The Tigers scored four more times in the second period while holding No. 17 Santa Clara (12-9, 1-4 WCC) to only one goal, building their lead to 6-2 at halftime.
     
  • The Broncos' Luke Baird led the team with two goals, the only Santa Clara player with multiple scores. SCU didn't score in the fourth period, while Pacific scored four times to pull away for the seven-goal victory. Other contributors for Santa Clara included Jason Alietti, Henry Engs and Jack Fisher each scored once.
     
  • Harrison Labrosse made nine saves in goal for Santa Clara. Pacific's Bae Fountain collected 10 saves.
