SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's water polo battled with the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (2-2) past regulation for a thrilling win at home 11-9. The game saw highlights from Elle Fredrickson as she matched her career-high five goals to help put away the Bronco win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Broncos (2-3) started on top with Sydney Maccabe winning the initial sprint. As the shot clock neared zero, she lobbed one over the goalies head to mark the board. With an early 2-0 start from the Broncos, the Sunbirds then went on an unanswered 3-0 run to give them the lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw a defensive battle from the field players and goalies, featuring some massive saves from Liyara Senadheera. Libby Slater found the net to tie the score up at three a piece, quickly followed by a Fredrickson goal to recapture the lead at 4-3. Again, Fresno Pacific responded with a 2-0 run, giving them the lead at 5-4 with five seconds left in the first half.

Entering the second half, Fredrickson scored another goal, assisted by Maddie Clough. Shortly after, Fresno went on yet another 3–0 run expanding the lead at 8-5 in the third period. Megan Chambliss tallied one of her own to help the Broncos as they were trailing 8-6 to end the third.

Starting the fourth quarter, Fredrickson nailed the net to cut the deficit to 8-7. With under two minutes left to go, Chambliss tied it up at 9-9 which then forced an overtime period.

Fredrickson shot the go-ahead goal in overtime and came up clutch, yet again giving the Broncos the lead 11-9 with a minute left in the fifth period. This secured the victory for Santa Clara as they added one more to the win column.

Senadheera started in the net and finished with 10 saves.
