Bronco's Strong Effort Falls Short Against California Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Santa Clara came up short in their efforts against California Baptist with a final score of 6-10 against the Lancers (11-15, 3-2). Liyara Sendaheera recorded 13 saves while in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sydney Maccabe started the game by winning the initial sprint and just a few minutes later, converted on a 6-on-5 for the first goal of the game. While the Lancers responded with one of their own, Chloe Morrison then beat the goalie to put the Broncos (6-17, 1-3)  up 2-1. The first period saw another tie score at 2-2, but with just two minutes to play, Maddie Clough found Elle Fredrickson, giving the Broncos the lead at 3-2. This proved to be the last Bronco lead of the game.

  • Cal Baptist was able to hold Santa Clara to tight defense in the second period. The score at the end of the second period was 7-3 in favor of the Lancers.

  • Maccabe started the second half with another win off the sprint, giving the Bronco offense a chance to start. Kate Rodman threw one into the back of the net with 1:31 left to go in the third period, cutting the score to 9-4, which was the last of the scoring in the third.

  • Off the sprint again was Maccabe, who took the fourth and final draw. This helped the Bronco momentum as Megan Chambliss added one to the board for the Broncos, putting the score at 9-5. With under two minutes left to play, Maddie Clough scored one for herself and fired into the back of the net, finalizing the score at 10-6 in favor of Cal Baptist.

  • Clough finished the day with three assists, tied for the most of anyone in the pool.

  • Annika Burks, Rodman, Chambliss, and Morrison all recorded one steal on the day.
