Quartet of Women’s Tennis Student-Athletes Earn WCC All-Academic Honors

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference recognized four student-athletes from the Santa Clara women's tennis team with All-Academic honors.  JennaMarie Gordon and Varya Zlotnik were named to the WCC All-Academic Team while Kacey Feng and Finley Kalinic were named as honorable mentions.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while being a starter or important reserve (participate in at least 50 percent of the institution's completed contests) with legitimate athletic credentials and have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed at the nominating institution.

Gordon has a cumulative grade point average of 3.600 and Zlotnik has a 3.916 GPA to earn two of the 12 spots on the All-Academic Team.

Gordon, a graduate student, working on her MBA played atop both the doubles and singles lineups in all 18 matches this spring and led the team in wins in both disciplines.  She finished with an 10-4 record in singles to tie atop the team lead with Velizara Fileva and 8-8 in doubles including three wins in WCC play.  This is the first time Gordon was named to the All-Academic Team as she was recognized as an honorable mention last year.

Zlotnik, a psychology major, was named to the All-Academic Team for the second-straight year .  The senior was in the lineup in all 18 doubles matches and 17 of 18 singles matches this spring.  Zlotnik recorded the 3-all matching clinching win against UC Irvine earlier in the dual match season.

Feng is majoring in finance with a 3.753 GPA.  The junior was in the doubles lineup at court three in all 18 Santa Clara this spring and had the second most wins on the team.  She also played in six singles matches.  This is her first All-Academic accolade.

Kalinic repeated as an All-Academic honorable mention and has a 3.586 GPA while majoring in psychology.  She played at the number two position in both doubles and singles, starting in all 18 matches this spring.

The Broncos concluded their season this past weekend defeating Gonzaga at home on Senior Day.
