No. 19 Broncos Beat Wagner to Close out Strong Showing at Princeton Invite

Harrison Villella had two goals Sunday against Wagner in the Princeton Invitational.
Box Score PRINCETON, N.J. — The No. 19 Santa Clara University men's water polo team wrapped up its best performance at the Princeton Invitational in six years Sunday with its third win in as many days, beating Wagner, 17-10, at Princeton University's DeNunzio Pool to conclude a 3-1 weekend.

A trio of Broncos logged three-goal days Sunday. Jason Alietti, Zach Fales and Reese Jenican scored three goals each. Harrison Villella also had a multi-goal day with two. Riccardo De Simon, Henry Engs, Jack Fisher, Max Hendrickson, Gojko Kapovic and Charles Kosinski all scored single goals.

Fales got the Broncos' scoring going two minutes into the first period to pull No. 19 Santa Clara (4-1) even at 1-1. Villella scored his first goal 90 seconds later to again tie it at 2-2. De Simon followed with his only goal of the day 25 seconds later to put the Broncos up, 3-2, and they would never trail again. Wagner (3-4) managed to tie the game two more times, at 3-3 and 4-4. Santa Clara answered with a 5-1 goals run that stretched across the second and third periods to pull away.

Santa Clara returns home to begin a two-game homestand. The Broncos host rival San Jose State in their West Coast Conference opener on Friday, then host George Washington in a non-conference game at noon Saturday. Fans can purchase tickets and find all live coverage links on SantaClaraBroncos.com.
