SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Santa Clara University men's water polo freshman utility player
Riccardo De Simon was named the KAP7 West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Week Monday for the week of Sept. 9-15 after he scored a team-leading 11 goals across four games at the Princeton Invitational.
Â
De Simon's 11 goals last weekend helped lead No. 19 Santa Clara to its best performance at the Princeton Invitational in six years. He had multiple goals in three games, including a season-high five Saturday in the Broncos' 20-16 win over Bucknell. It was De Simon's back-to-back goals four minutes into the first period Saturday versus Bucknell that put the Broncos up for good, erasing a 3-2 Bisons lead and making it 4-3 at the time. He added six steals and four assists on the weekend.
Â
Pacific's Mihailo Vukazic was named the KAP7 WCC Player of the Week, alongside De Simon.
Â
De Simon and the Broncos returns home this week to begin a two-game homestand. They host rival San Jose State in their WCC opener on Friday, then host George Washington in a non-conference game at noon Saturday. Fans can purchase tickets and find all live coverage links on SantaClaraBroncos.com.
