Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Senior captain
Zach Fales couldn't tell a lie Saturday against visiting George Washington University, scoring a career-high eight goals to power the No. 18 Santa Clara University Broncos to a 17-10 non-conference win over the Revolutionaries at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.
Â
The No. 18 Broncos (5-2) were trailing George Washington (5-5), 5-3, in the second period, perhaps slow to start after Friday's emotional, triple-overtime setback at the hands of rival and No. 9-ranked San Jose State. But they would reset themselves and power up the offense in the second period. George Washington scored four consecutive goals across the first and second periods to take that 5-3 lead after falling behind 3-1 right out the gate.
Â
Fales netted SCU's tying goal at 5-5 midway through the second period. He was the one who put the Broncos on the board to start the day 26 seconds after the opening whistle to make it 1-0. Fales would score consecutive goals at the end of the second period to give Santa Clara a 9-6 halftime lead. He scored four more times in the second half, his last goal of the day putting the Broncos up, 16-10, with 4 1/2 minutes to play.
Reese Jenican had a three-goal day,
Jason Alietti,
Charlie Engs,
Jack Fisher,
Grant Roesch and
Harrison Villella all scored one goal each.
Harrison Labrosse made seven saves in net for Santa Clara, while
Owen Van Stralen stopped three shots in seven minutes of net-minding time.
Â
George Washington was led by three goals from Yam Kabakov. Leo Lueddemann and Antonio Florena. Kai De Orbeta, Andrija Sekulic and Adonis Vlassis added one goal apiece. Luca Castorina made 11 saves in goal for the Revolutionaries.
