Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis Falls at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – Santa Clara men's tennis traveled up to the Pacific Northwest to face Oregon playing in their first match as part of the Big Ten Conference and fell 7-0 inside the Student Tennis Center.  The Broncos pushed four of the six singles matches to three sets but fell just short in each of them.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Santa Clara (1-1) played Oregon (1-0) evenly in doubles with Tiago Boschmans and Valentin Faure defeating Vlad Breazu and Cooper Errey 6-4 on court three to knot it at a match apiece.  But the Broncos were unable to take the doubles point when Luca Bluett and John Kim lost 6-4 to Lenn Luemkemann and Matthew Burton on court one.
  • Oregon took control of the match winning the first two singles matches to take a 3-0 lead on the team score.  At court four, Clement Lemire downed Valentin Faure 6-3, 6-2 followed by a 7-5, 7-1 win by Burton over John Kim on court five.
  • Despite being down 3-0, the Broncos kept things close pushing the remaining four matches to three sets.  However, Errey shut the hopes for any Bronco comeback with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Tiago Boschmans on court six to clinch the match at 4-0.
  • The remaining three matches all went three sets but SCU came up on the short end in each of them.
NEXT UP:
  • Santa Clara heads to Lexington, Kentucky to play in the ITA Kickoff Weekend tournament against Kentucky on Friday and either Nebraska or Arizona State on Saturday.
