LEXINGTON, Ky. – In Saturday's consolation bracket of the ITA Kickoff Weekend, Santa Clara men's tennis fell 4-0 to Nebraska. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Santa Clara (1-3) and Nebraska (3-1) split the first two doubles matches with the doubles point coming down to court one.  The Cornhuskers' duo of Lars Johann and Anton Shepp narrowly edged out Luca Bluett and John Kim 7-6 (7-3) to give the team a 1-0 advantage heading to singles play.  
• On the four courts equipped at the Hilary J. Boone Indoor Tennis Center, Nebraska (2-1) took the momentum from securing the doubles point and won the first set in each of the four singles matches. 
• Shepp won his match over Luca Lemaitre in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 on court two, followed by Calvin Mueller's 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) straight set victory over Alex Watanabe Eriksson on court one to take a commanding 3-0 lead.  
• Santa Clara battled to push the matches to three sets on courts three and four before Nikolay Sysoev took care of Valentin Faure 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to clinch the team victory for the Cornhuskers.  

• Santa Clara returns home to host UC San Diego on Friday at the Degheri Tennis Center.  First serve is at 3 p.m.
