No. 17 Men's Water Polo Opens JFM with WCC Tilt vs. No. 15 LMU

Harrison Labrosse made 11 saves in net Friday in the Broncos' Julian Fraser Memorial opener.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The No. 17 Santa Clara University men's water polo team opened the 2025 Julian Fraser Memorial on Friday with a West Coast Conference matchup against No. 15 LMU, with the Lions earning a 13-10 win at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless opening four minutes, LMU (7-9, 1-2 WCC) struck first and scored three unanswered goals in the first period, then added four more in the second to take a 7-3 lead into halftime.
     
  • Santa Clara (7-10, 1-3 WCC) responded in the third with three straight goals to pull within 8-6 just before the end of the period. Riccardo De Simon scored twice during the run, and Imme van der Schaaf added the other.
     
  • LMU opened the fourth with two quick goals in the first minute to extend its lead to 10-6. Santa Clara answered with two goals from van der Schaaf and a penalty conversion from De Simon to close the gap to 12-10 with three minutes remaining, but LMU added a goal at the two-minute mark and held off the Broncos by forcing four missed shots and two turnovers down the stretch.
     
  • De Simon led all players with five goals, adding an assist for six points, along with five steals and four drawn exclusions. Van der Schaaf finished with three goals, one assist, three steals, and a drawn exclusion. Henry Engs recorded two assists, and Harrison Labrosse made 11 saves in goal. LMU's Tommaso Baldineti had nine points (four goals, five assists) and matched De Simon with five steals.
