No. 17 Men's Water Polo Beats No. 19 Harvard To Close Out Weekend

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 17 Santa Clara men's water polo pulled away late for a 16-11 win over No. 19 Harvard Sunday morning in the Broncos final game of the Julian Fraser Memorial at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Santa Clara (8-11) scored three in a row, the last two from Reese Jenican, to go from down one to up 4-2. Harvard (15-8) got one back with 19 seconds left in the period, but the Broncos still led 4-3 after the first quarter.
  • The second quarter saw Santa Clara score the first three goals to get out in front 7-3. Again, Harvard scored late, with just 18 seconds left in the half to make it a 7-4 Bronco advantage at the half.
  • Three more for the Broncos started to the third to give them a 10-4 lead, but the Crimson came back with the final four of the third and two more to start the fourth to even things up at 10-all with 5:54 remaining. Santa Clara had an answer, scoring four in a row. Harvard got one back before the Broncos scored the final two of the match to seal the victory.
  • Imme van der Schaaf scored a game-high five goals and added three assists with Ashton Brown and Jenican adding three goals apiece. Harrison Labrosse collected nine saves in net.
  • Jack Burghardt led the Crimson with three goals and Dean Strauser and Connor Kim had three assists. Tanner Furtak tallied 12 blocks.
