BERKELEY, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's tennis program achieved a historic milestone on Saturday when the doubles team of Luca Bluett and John Kim qualified for the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championship. They became the first Bronco men's players to qualify for the NCAA individual championships since at least 2001. Since then, only the 2012 men's squad qualified for the NCAA Team Championship and on the women's side, Katie Le made the NCAA Singles Championship in three straight seasons from 2012-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bluett and Kim battled Gustavo Ribeiro de Alemeida and Lasse Poertner in the semifinal round. They needed three sets to down the Pepperdine tandem 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5).
- The finals will not be played as it was played until the teams have qualified, which were the two finalists plus the third place team.
- Alexander Watanabe Eriksson is currently scheduled to play in the singles finals of the consolation bracket on Sunday but that determination will be made later on Saturday night depending on the availability of the opponent.
