BOSTON — Junior
Milaina Almonte, coming off an historic fall cross country season, kicked off the 2025-26 Santa Clara University women's track season Saturday by running one of the fastest 5,000-meter times in program history at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center.
Â
Almonte finished 93rd among a field of nearly 200 runners in the women's 5,000-meter run, posting a time of 16 minutes, 25.89 seconds, which stands as the second-fastest 5,000 ever ran by a Santa Clara woman. The program record in the women's 5,000 stands at 16:24.20, ran by Mary Kriege in 2016.
Â
The time was also a 25-second personal best in the 5,000 for Almonte. She had previously run 16:50.24 in April during outdoor season at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco.
Â
The Broncos now take a break for the holidays before resuming their indoor schedule on January 16 at the Spokane Sports Showcase in Spokane, Wash.
