SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis players
Luca Bluett and
John Kim were named West Coast Conference Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week after the duo helped get the Broncos off to a fast start in the weekend sweep of Cal Poly and Idaho.
Santa Clara defeated Cal Poly 6-1 on Saturday and Idaho 7-0 on Sunday to push their win streak to four and improve to a 5-3 record on the year.
On Saturday, Bluett and Kim clinched the doubles point defeating Cal Poly's Raz Haviv and Sean Kamyshev 6-4. The following day, the Bronco duo quickly downed Idaho's Francisco Gay and Noe De Col 6-1 for the first doubles win of the day. The Broncos would eventually take the doubles point in a tiebreaker after SCU and Idaho split the first two matches.
The Bronco tandem has played atop the doubles lineup in seven of the eight matches this spring with a 4-2 record including wins in the last three matches.
It is the first such honor for Bluett and Kim.
Santa Clara next play at UNLV this Saturday.
