Men's Tennis Blanks Idaho at Home

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the second straight match, a Santa Clara men's tennis player had a hand in both the doubles and match point clinchers.  This time it was Tiago Boschmans who clinched the match at 4-0 en route to Santa Clara blanking Idaho 7-0 on Sunday under sunny skies at the Degheri Tennis Center.  A day earlier, Luca Bluett did the same against Cal Poly in the Broncos 6-1 road victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Boschmans secured the Santa Clara (5-3) victory with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Gabriel Moroder on court five.
  • Earlier in doubles play, Boschmans teamed up with Valentin Faure to down Moroder and Yu-Shun Lai in a nail biter, 7-6 (11-9).  The win clinched the doubles point after the Broncos and the Vandals split the first two matches.
  • John Kim was the first to finish in singles play, defeating Noe De Col 6-1, 6-1 on court six to give the Broncos a 2-0 advantage.
  • The wins kept coming for Santa Clara with Luca Bluett getting the third team point for the Broncos beating Lai 6-1, 6-2.  Following Boschmans' clincher, Luca Lemaitre, Lukas Maskow and Alex Watanabe Eriksson each won their singles matches.
  • Idaho's (3-3) lone win of the day came on a doubles win by Chetanna Amadike and Sebastian Medica.
NEXT UP:
  • The Broncos head to Las Vegas to face UNLV on Saturday.
