No. 9 UC Davis Tops Women's Water Polo at Aggie Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Freshman Mikayla Crowe scored two goals and four other Broncos chipped in Sunday as the Santa Clara University women's water polo team fell on the road at No. 9 UC Davis, 17-6, in their only game as part of the Aggie Invitational at Schaal Aquatic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Crowe's two goals Sunday were the first of her career after going scoreless in the first three  games of the season. She added an assist, her second of the season. Megan Chambliss, Sydney Maccabe, Francesca Moynihan and Libby Slater scored one goal each.

  • Santa Clara (2-2) stayed close to No. 9 UC Davis through the first period, scoring four goals against the Aggies' five to only trail by one after eight minutes of play. UCD pulled away slightly in the second quarter by shutting out the Broncos and tacking on two more goals, but it was still only a three-goal game at halftime, with UC Davis leading, 7-4.

  • The Broncos tacked on two more goals in the third period – both from Crowe – but that was all they'd get for the rest of the afternoon. UC Davis scored five more goals in both the third and fourth periods for 10 total in the second half.

  • Chambliss led the team with three drawn exclusions. Mia Barkett, Crowe, Maccabe and Moynihan each logged assists. Barkett also swiped two steals. Haley Tassell made seven saves in goal for the Broncos while grabbing two steals.
