Feng, Fileva Earn WCC Women’s Tennis All-Academic Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference recognized Kacey Feng and Velizara Fileva from the Santa Clara women's tennis team with All-Academic honors on Wednesday.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while being a starter or important reserve (participate in at least 50 percent of the institution's completed contests) with legitimate athletic credentials and have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed at the nominating institution.

Feng has a 3.724 GPA, majoring in finance.  The senior from Manhattan Beach, California was in the doubles line up in 18 matches, all at No. 3.  This is her second All-Academic accolade having also been named honorable mention last season.

Fileva, a communication major, has a 3.308 GPA.   The Plovdiv Bulgaria native, went 11-7 in singles and won four times in doubles. In singles, Fileva mainly played at No. 3, going 10-3 and delivered the win on a 3-all clincher against Saint Mary's to give the Broncos their first West Coast Conference win of the season.  In doubles, she played 14 of the 19 matches at No. 1.  This is the first time the senior has been named All-Academic.
