#3 Seed Men's Tennis Falls in WCC Tourney Semis to #2 Pepperdine

SAN DIEGO – No. 3 Santa Clara men's tennis fell to No. 2 Pepperdine 4-0 in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament on Friday at the Aztec Tennis Center.  The Waves flexed their might as the 25th-ranked team in the nation, sweeping the doubles and singles matches to advance to Saturday's finals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Pepperdine (16-9) went up 1-0 when Maxi Homberg and Linus Halldin downed Tiago Bushman's and Lukas Maskow 6-3 on court two to take the doubles point.
  • In singles, the Waves won the first set in five of the six matches.  Lasse Poertner was the first to finish, dropping Lukas Maskow 6-0, 6-4 on court three. The result on court five followed suit with David Fix beating Tiago Boschmans 6-1, 7-5 to put Pepperdine on the brink of the clinch. 
  • Linus Halldin helped Pepperdine punch their ticket to the finals with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Luca Bluett on court two.  
  • No. 70 Santa Clara closed out the season with a 15-9 record and ranked for 10 straight weeks.
