No. 19 Men's Water Polo Falls to No. 4 Fordham

PRINCETON, N.J. — The No. 19 Santa Clara University men's water polo team closed out its trip to the 2025 Princeton Invitational Sunday with a 20-15 setback at the hands of No. 4-ranked Fordham at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first and third periods made the biggest difference in the game, with Fordham (5-1) outscoring the Broncos (4-2), 14-5, in those two periods combined. Santa Clara outscored the Rams in both the second and fourth periods, but the margin was only 10-6.
     
  • Fordham jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the game's first 3 1/2 minutes and never trailed. After building a 7-3 lead through the first period, the Broncos would pull to within two at 10-8 at halftime. Fordham put the game away in the third period, growing its lead to 17-10 heading into the final eight minutes of the game.
     
  • Riccardo De Simon led Santa Clara with five goals to give him 14 on the weekend. Imme van der Schaaf scored three more on Sunday to give him 10 in the tournament. Reese Jenican gave SCU three multi-goal performances with two scores against Fordham. Jason Alietti, Henry Engs, Ashton Brown, Thomas Wisdom and Luke Baird all added single goals.
     
  • Andras Toth scored six goals for Fordham to lead all players, one of five multi-goal games for the Rams. Toth scored four goals in the third period alone to help Fordham pull away.
COMING UP
  • The Broncos return home on Saturday to host American River College in an exhibition game at noon. They then travel to Southern California for the MPSF Invite beginning on Sept. 19.
