Men's Tennis Continues Strong Play on Third Day at ITA Regionals

SEATTLE – Santa Clara men's tennis continued their strong play at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Saturday, advancing four singles players to the round of 16 and a pair of doubles teams to the quarterfinals. Among the singles victories was Lukas Maskow's downing of No. 2 seed Timofey Stepanov of Cal. Three Broncos have now knocked out the top three singles seeds over the last two days.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Maskow beat Stepanov, who qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship two seasons ago, in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.
Joining Maskow in the round of 16 are Adam FaragCao, Ferran Redza and Valentin Faure.
A day after knocking off the No. 1 seed Hudson Rivera of Stanford, FaragCao took care of Paulo Etchecoin 6-1, 6-3.
Redza downed Oregon's Cameron Burton 6-4, 6-2 after beating the No. 3 seed Nathan Bari of Stanford on Friday.
Valentin Faure handled Alexander Gschiel of Saint Mary's, coming back from a set down to win 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.
In doubles, three doubles teams won their round of 32 matches with Redza and Luca Lemaitre along with Luca Bluett and FaragCao winning their round of 16 matches.
Redza and Lemaitre advanced to the quarterfinals with their 8-3 victory past Portland State's Edoardo Cravanzola and Vitomir Petcov.
Bluett and FaragCao defeated Stanford's Ronit Karki and Mark Krupkin 8-5.
