Men’s Tennis Ranked No. 38 Nationally, Highest Since 2013

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's tennis program held steady at No. 38 in Tuesday's latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, the highest mark since 2013 when they were No. 37.

The team debuted at No. 40 in the Feb. 19 team rankings and have climbed up to No. 38 the last two weeks lifted by the current six-match win streak.  They have a 10-2 record this season with wins against three Power 4 schools - Alabama, Oregon and Washington - as well as against No. 74 ranked UNLV.  The Broncos next face No. 61 Boise State on Saturday in Idaho.

The Broncos feature a nationally ranked doubles tandem in Luca Bluett and John Kim who currently sits at No. 27 after reaching a high of No. 17 earlier in the season.  They are 5-1 with two of those wins against top-12 opponents, beating No. 2 Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez from Mississippi State and No.12 Jacob Olar and Andrii Zimnokh from Alabama.

SCU's No. 2 doubles team of Tiago Boschmans and Luca Lemaitre also has a win over a ranked opponent, defeating No. 80 Miguel Avendano and Lucca Liu of UC Santa Barbara.  Boschmans and Lemaitre are 7-1 on the year including a six-match win streak.

Overall, the Broncos are 21-6 in doubles matches and 41-20 in singles.

The singles lineup from court three through six have especially been strong with a combined 34-9 record.

Head coach Niall Angus, who is in his 10th year at the helm, is two wins shy of tying Sean Burns for the most wins in program history with 130 career victories.
