PORTLAND, Ore. – Santa Clara women's tennis comeback bid fell short against Portland in a West Coast Conference match as Meagan Pearson defeated Juliette Krumholz with the match tied at 3-all to give the Pilots the victory on Saturday.  
   
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Portland (6-5, 1-0 WCC) had a 3-1 lead but Santa Clara (3-10, 0-2 WCC) answered with back-to-back singles victories to knot the match up at 3-all before Pearson's 3-all clincher in their WCC opener.   
• The Pilots took the doubles point winning on court one followed by on court three both by a 6-2 score.  On court one, Maria Galatescu and Alaia Rubio Perez downed Tian Yu Dong and Ashley Katz.  And on court three, Nadine Arbaizar Martinez and Pearson beat Lizanne Boyer and Juliette Krumholz.   
• In singles, just three matches were played at a time inside the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center, starting with courts one through three.
• Dariya Radulova won the first singles match, defeating Boyer 6-3, 6-1 on court two to push the Pilots' advantage to 2-0. 
• Daniella Dimitrova put the Broncos on the board defeating Perez 6-4, 6-4 atop the lineup to cut into the Pilots lead at 2-1. 
• Portland then pushed the lead out to 3-1 when Martinez beat Dong in three sets 6-0, 4-6, 6-2.
• Santa Clara (3-10, 0-2 WCC) closed the gap to 3-2 on  Ashley Katz's win over Lexie Flores 6-3, 6-0 on court five and tied up the match at 3-3 when Anna Rahman took down Maria Galatescu in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
• However, in the final match, Pearson got the upper hand on court six to secure the team victory for Portland.
