CLOVIS, Calif. — The Santa Clara University women's track team placed multiple runners near the front of the 1,500 meters and turned in a series of strong performances across sections Friday at the West Coast Relays at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Milaina Almonte led the Broncos in the 1,500 meters with a third-place finish in 4:34.24. Sydney Lim followed in sixth (4:36.17) and Olivia Schlieman placed eighth in 4:38.88 as Santa Clara put three runners inside the top eight.
   
• Across additional sections of the 1,500, Sarah Guralnick finished 22nd overall with a time of 4:46.54. Julia Russo and Aliyah Yearian followed in 24th and 25th, placing second and third in the same heat in 4:47.35 and 4:47.39, respectively. Ramneek Kaur won her section in 4:49.85, while Josie Cahill placed fourth in that same section. Alyssa Wyatt added a third-place finish in her heat.
   
• In the 800 meters, Sigrid Brakenhielm paced Santa Clara with a ninth-place finish in 2:16.29, followed by Kiera Kime in 12th (2:17.14) and Heidi Green in 17th (2:19.29). Emma Gardner (27th) and Grace Winkler (33rd) also competed for the Broncos.

COMING UP

• The Broncos will split their squad up across two meets next week, with some student-athletes heading to the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco and others going to the elite Stanford Invitational in Stanford. Both meets will run on Friday and Saturday.
