SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis players
Lizanne Boyer and
Juliette Krumholz were named West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week after the duo won all four of their matches last week to help the Broncos secure a spot in the upcoming week's WCC Tournament for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
Playing at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, Boyer and Krumholz defeated the doubles pairs from Pacific, Saint Mary's, Washington State and Gonzaga over a five day span. The Broncos as a team went 3-1 in those matches.
Against Pacific on April 13, the Bronco tandem defeated Maggie Hoe and Rayna Sugai 6-1. While the Broncos dropped the doubles point, they won four of the six singles matches to beat Pacific 4-3.
The following day, they beat Sophie Stanton and Sydney Wilson of Saint Mary's 6-4 to clinch the doubles point in a match the Broncos would go on to win 4-0.
Facing Washington State on Thursday, Boyer and Krumholz took care of Yura Nakagawa and Zali Morris 6-3 for the first doubles win for SCU. The Broncos would claim the doubles point but fell to the Cougars 4-2.
And on Friday's regular season finale against Gonzaga, they won 6-3 over Elizabeth Tindera and Diana Yanotovskaya to once again get the first doubles win for the team. The Broncos secured the doubles point en route to sweeping the Zags 4-0.
This is the first weekly conference accolade for Boyer and Krumholz.
Santa Clara next plays Washington State in the opening round of the WCC Tournament on Thursday at 6 p.m. PT.
