FAIRFIELD, Calif. – In the opening round of the West Coast Conference tournament on Thursday, the sixth seed Santa Clara women's tennis lost to third seed Washington State 4-0, bringing an end to the Broncos' 2026 dual match season.  Santa Clara finished the year 8-15 after qualifying for the league tournament for the first time since 2017-18.  The Broncos won three of the final four regular season matches to earn a spot in the tournament but the lone loss in that span also came against Washington State, exactly a week ago.  
          
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Washington State (16-7) claimed the doubles point and won the first three singles matches to blank Santa Clara (8-15).
• Eva Alvarez Sande and Ava-Monet Sycamore clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Daniella Dimitrova and Anna Rahman on court two. 
• The Cougars continued their strong play in singles as Maxine Murphy was the first to finish on court two beating Lizanne Boyer 6-4, 6-1. 
• On court five, Chisato Kanemaki took care of Tian Yu Dong 6-4, 6-2 to push the lead out to 3-0. 
• The match clincher came on court three from Martina Puvill who defeated Anna Rahman 6-4, 6-0.
• Ashley Katz won the first set against Yura Nakagawa and was ahead 3-1 in the second set prior to the match getting clinched.
