STANFORD, Calif. — The Santa Clara University women's track team posted a series of distance performances Friday at the Payton Jordan Invitational, highlighted by a major improvement in the steeplechase and a near all-time mark in the 1,500 meters at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Milaina Almonte ran 10:39.52 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to place 10th overall, improving her No. 3 mark in program history by nearly 20 seconds from her previous best of 10:59.36, set earlier this season.
- Sydney Lim ran 4:30.63 in the 1,500 meters, placing 19th overall and fourth in her heat while finishing just under a half-second off her own No. 6 mark in program history. Olivia Schlieman finished 23rd in 4:37.03, and Kiera Kime won her heat while placing 24th overall in 4:37.67.
- Aliyah Yearian added a 31st-place finish in 4:46.20, followed by Kaylee Volner in 33rd (4:56.42), Alyssa Wyatt in 34th (4:57.11), Mariah Aragon in 36th (4:59.01), Sophia Smithstanza in 37th (5:01.90) and Rachelle Cormier in 38th (5:13.87).
- Sigrid Brakenhielm led Santa Clara in the 800 meters with a 20th-place finish in 2:15.98, followed by Heidi Green in 21st (2:17.50). In the 5,000 meters, Ramneek Kaur finished 48th in 18:16.82, with Julia Russo 49th (18:29.86) and Isabella Gonzalez 51st (18:36.21).
