Vaasa, FINLAND – Former Santa Clara men's tennis player Guillaume Dalmasso won his first professional tournament, capturing the singles title at the 2026 Wasa Open in Vaasa, Finland this past weekend defeating Joaquin Guilleme of Nicaragua in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Dalmasso, who played at Santa Clara from 2020-21 to 2023-24, was the third seeded player in the M15 Level tournament comprised of large number of international players including the top seed Filip Peliwo from Poland (ATP ranking of No. 489) and Petros Tsitsipas from Greece whose brother Stéfanos was ranked as high as No. 3 in the world.
Comprised of 32 players in the main draw, Dalmasso began his title quest on June 10 with a come-from-behind win over Estonia's Sten Hiiesalu 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) in the opening round.
The Aix en Provence, France native followed with a victory past Tsitsipas in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.
Dalmasso had another comeback triumph in the quarterfinals downing the seventh-seed Tom Zeuch of Germany 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 to setup the showdown against top-seed Peliwo.
Both the semifinals and the finals were played on Saturday due to bad weather forecast on Sunday. In the semis, Dalmasso took care of Peliwo 6-4, 7-5 before beating unseeded Guilleme in the finals.
Dalmasso was a two-time All-West Coast Conference Second Team in singles and in doubles finishing his Bronco career with 72 singles and 42 doubles victories overall in his four seasons on the Mission Campus.
