CONCORD, Calif. — The Santa Clara University women's cross country team ran a number of underclassmen and got some racing experience in Friday at the Saint Mary's College Invitational, finishing 11th as a team at Newhall Park.
 
Seven of the eight Broncos who competed Friday were underclassmen, with four of those being true freshmen. The lone upperclassmen running for SCU Friday led the way for the team, with Aliyah Yearian finishing 78th overall in 22 minutes, 22.9 seconds, over the 6-kilometer course. Yearian moved up nearly the entire race, gaining 18 spots from the first checkpoint to the finish line. Freshman Andrea Correa made her collegiate debut, finishing right behind Yearian in 79th at 22:26.1.
 
A trio of rookies rounded out the Broncos' top-five. Natalie O'Dell finished 86th in 22:33.3, Isabella Cruz placed 88th in 22:34.5, and Julia Lentz came in 92nd with a time of 22:37.6. Sigrid Brakenhielm gave Santa Clara six finishers in the top-100 with a 99th-place finish in 22:57.4 Ramneek Kaur capped the Broncos' top-seven, finishing 109th in 23:13.2. Alyssa Wyatt also competed for the Broncos, placing 117th with a time of 23:21.9.
 
Santa Clara scored 342 points to finish 11th in the team standings Friday. It beat crosstown rival San Jose State (13th, 411 points) and West Coast Conference foe Pacific (15th, 467). NCAA Division II No. 6-ranked Chico State won the meet with 39 points. UC San Diego's Elle Marsyla won the individual title in 20:12.9.
