TULSA, Okla. – Santa Clara men's tennis picked up a win each in singles and doubles play on the first day of action at the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday. Ferran Redza got the singles victory while the tandem of Luca Bluett and Valentin Faure came up on top in their doubles match.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Santa Clara had six players compete in the singles round of 256. Redza defeated Ian Bracks of Oklahoma State 6-0, 6-1 to pick the lone singles win for the Broncos and will face Jeremy Zhang of Illinois in the next round.
- In four of the five singles losses for Santa Clara, the match went to three sets. Freshman Adam FaragCao made his Bronco debut but came up short against Wisconsin's Patrik Meszaros 7-6 (9-7), 5-7, 6-3.
- In doubles, SCU played in two matches in the round of 32. Bluett and Faure beat Arizona's Alejandro Arcila and Cole Stelse 6-4, 6-4. They will next play Penn's Shaurya Bharadwaj, and Vojtech Vales.
