DAVIS, Calif. - No. 19 Santa Clara men's water polo split their two-game day at the Aggie Shootout hosted by UC Davis. The Broncos gave the No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins all they could handle before falling 13-8, and closed the day with a dominant 17-1 victory over UC Merced. The team also played an evening exhibition match against Cuesta College in which they came away with an 18-8 victory. 

Game One | #1 UCLA 13, #19 Santa Clara 8
The Broncos gave a great effort against the top-ranked Bruins with six players finding the back of the net. Junior Riccardo De Simon led the charge with three goals to go with a steal and a field block while Henry Engs was credited with a pair of steals. Senior keeper Harrison Labrosse played all 32 minutes in the net, making four blocks to go with a pair of steals. 

Game Two | #19 Santa Clara 17, UC Merced
In their second meeting against the Bobcats in as many weeks, the Broncos dominated UC Merced with a 17-1 triumph. Freshman Connor Clougherty got the start in the net and was outstanding for the duration of the match with just one goal allowed against four saves and two steals. Nine Broncos found the back of the net offensively led by a four-goal outing by junior Jensen Welton - his first points as a Bronco - and a career-best three-goals from sophomore Jamie De Zwart. SCU also saw multi-goal games from freshman Nick Zimmerman, sophomore Beck Harvey and junior Reece Hammond. De Zwart also came away with a career-best three steals, as did freshman Finn Swanson, who also tallied a team-best six assists.

The 3-1 Broncos are back in action next weekend at the Princeton Invitational in New Jersey where they will take on Wagner, Bucknell and Harvard, Sept. 11-12.
