3rd Season
UC San Diego, '22
Lance Muret is entering his fourth season with the Santa Clara University beach volleyball program in the spring of 2026, and his second as a full-time assistant. He joined the program for the 2024 campaign and spent his first year on the Mission Campus as a volunteer assistant.
Muret was part of one of the Broncos’ winningest seasons in 2025, as the program tied a school record with 18 match victories (SCU also won 18 in 2023). In his first season as a full-time assistant in 2025, Santa Clara earned its first win over a nationally ranked opponent in a decade and went on to finish runner-up at the WCC Championship Tournament, the best postseason result in program history. He was recognized by Volleyball Magazine in 2024 with a spot on the College Coaching Hotshot list.
Muret brings a strong combination of competitive success, coaching experience, and deep beach volleyball knowledge to the Broncos. A San Diego native and graduate of La Costa Canyon High School, Muret was part of an indoor volleyball CIF championship team and earned CIF Libero of the Year honors. On the beach side, he led his high school program as the No. 1-seed all four years, helping secure two team championships and an individual pairs title.
Muret continued his indoor career at UC San Diego, where he competed with the men’s club volleyball team while earning his B.A. in International Business with a marketing concentration. Muret was the epitome of a "student-athlete" in college, graduating in under four years with a 3.6 cumulative GPA, earning four quarters of Provost Honors, and receiving Dean’s List academic recognition.
Muret has four years of coaching experience with WAVE Volleyball’s beach program, where he's coached under the 2021 AVCA Beach Coach of the Year and 2023 AVP Coach of the Year, Mike Placek. Muret develops lesson plans and drills for WAVE, and helps cultivate work ethic and commitment to team culture. Muret also served as Assistant Head Coach for boys volleyball at The Bishop’s School, assisting with varsity team development through practices, drills, and matches, while also supporting parent communication and team-building initiatives. He remains active in the beach volleyball community as a competitor, recently winning the King of Spring event in Encinitas, Calif.
