Marissa White was named an assistant coach of the Santa Clarawomen's basketball program in July 2009. Along with her coachingduties, White is the staff liaison responsible for fundraising,marketing and promotions, community service, scouting, recruitingand film exchange.
White helped SCU sign one of the NCAA's top recruiting classesprior to the 2011-12 season, when ESPN ranked the Broncos incomingclass No. 55 nationally. Since her arrival at SCU, the Broncos haveincreased their win-total each of her four seasons and have set thestandard for community service and academic achievement within theframework of intercollegiate athletics.
Among other award-winning community service projects, theBroncos have taken the initiative to team up with over 15 communityorganizations, creating unique game day sponsorships and developingthe ‘Bronco Community Challenge,’ which uses SCUbasketball as the venue to strengthen the sense of community in theSouth Bay.
As a team and individually, Santa Clara's women's basketballstudent-athletes have achieved local, regional and nationalrecognition for their achievements in the classroom. SCU owned acollective team GPA of 3.1 in 2012-13 and had four players named tothe West Coast Conference All-Academic Team.
She was instrumental in developing record-setting guard Alyssa Shoji '12 into one of themost accomplished guards in Santa Clara history. Shoji set the WCCsingle-season record for 3-point field goals made (99) in 2011-12and established a new Broncos all-time 3-point record of 289 for acareer.
She came to the Mission Campus after three seasons as theCoordinator of Women's Basketball Operations at the University ofthe Pacific. While in Stockton, White's duties includedcoordinating the team's film exchanges, maintaining a recruitingdatabase, purchasing equipment and assisting with game operations.Additionally, White was responsible for helping to prepare the teamfor practice and for workouts.
Before Pacific, White spent two seasons playing for head coachLynne Roberts at Chico State from 2002-04. During her two years atChico State, White established herself as one of the top scorers inthe California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), earningfirst team all-conference honors as both a junior and senior andAll-West Region honors in her final season. During her juniorcampaign as a Wildcat, Marissa set a new single season schoolscoring record as she averaged an impressive 18.9 points per game.Additionally, White topped the record books again as she posted 84three-pointers for the season. White graduated in 2004 with adegree in psychology.
After leaving Chico State, White took her talent overseas forthe 2005 season as she played for Hop BBK of the Eliteserien -Kvinner League in Norway. White obtained her master's degree insport sciences at Pacific in 2009.
