Payne Alexander enters his second year as a member of the Santa Clara University sports medicine staff in 2026, and his first as Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine, where he oversees care for the women’s volleyball and men’s golf teams.
Before joining Santa Clara, Alexander was an Associate Athletic Trainer at the University of San Francisco from 2022-2024, where he worked with women’s volleyball, beach volleyball, and the cross country programs. Prior to moving to California, Alexander spent 2019-21 working at the U.S. Athletic Training Center, an outpatient physical therapy clinic in Manhattan, treating a variety of orthopedic injuries and postoperative rehabilitation programs.
Alexander completed his undergraduate education at Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in 2017. He completed rotations with the BU men’s ice hockey team as well as at Tufts University, MIT, and Emerson College. Following BU, Alexander completed a graduate assistantship at Nichols College from 2017-19, where he earned his M.B.A. while working as a Massachusetts-certified athletic trainer coordinating coverage for their football, baseball, and women’s volleyball programs.
Payne grew up in Missouri and has a passion for ice hockey, golf, and exploring the outdoors through hiking and skiing. He cheers primarily for the St. Louis Blues and New Orleans Saints. He and his wife, Allie, currently reside in San Francisco.
