Santa Clara Loses To Naval Academy 11-5 at Princeton Invitational

Sept. 8, 2007

PRINCETON, N.J. - No. 16 Santa Clara lost for the second time on Saturday at the Princeton Invitational, falling 11-5 to Navy. SCU is now 1-2 on the season and will look to rebound on Sunday as the tournament concludes.

Stephen Hobbs led the Bronco scoring with 2 goals, bringing his tournament total to a team leading 5. Also scoring for Santa Clara was Josh Early, Matt Adler, and Mike Sorgenfrei with one goal apiece. Luke Oda also contributed with an assist, a steal, and three kickouts drawn. Robert Callahan and Chris Jones split time in the cage again, with both goalkeepers recording five blocks.

I thought we actually played better in the afternoon," said head coach Keith Wilbur, referring to the 9-8 overtime loss to George Washington earlier in the day. "I think we showed some improvement from the game before. It's proving to be a tough weekend, like last year, and I think what we can do is just focus on improving each game.

The Broncos will face Princeton tomorrow morning and will conclude the tournament against Gannon in the afternoon.
