Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In a match played in
95-degree heat, the visiting Santa Clara University and Sacramento
State University combined for eight yellow cards and 29 fouls.
Santa Clara's
Keigo Kameya scored his first collegiate
goal in the first half before Rory O'Day answered with an
equalizer for Sacramento State just after intermission. Despite two
overtimes and 20 minutes of extra time, the game ended in a 1-1
tie.
Kameya, a true freshman from nearby Saratoga, set the tone for
Santa Clara (3-4-1) with an
unassisted goal in the early going. The Broncos finish the
weekend unbeaten. SCU knocked off city rival San Jose State
University 2-1 Friday night at Buck Shaw Stadium prior to making
the trip to Sacramento Sunday.
Sacramento State (5-2-1) is in the midst of its best stretch of
soccer in school history. The Hornets are coming off their
first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and upset No. 10 UC Irvine
last week to begin its 2010 season by winning five of its first
seven.
Santa Clara will now prepare for West Coast Conference play. The
Broncos will travel to the Pacific Northwest for matches against
Gonzaga University Friday, October 1 and league favorite the
University of Portland Sunday, October 3.
