SAN JOSE, Calif. - Bronco sophomore Claire Eadington scored a career-high five goals, had two assists, two steals and drew four kick outs, but Santa Clara dropped its final game of the SJSU Spartan Invitational to local rival Pacific 10-9 Sunday.

Eadington's performance highlighted the conclusion of a tough five-game stretch to open the 2012 season this weekend for Santa Clara.

"Our goal as a team is to get better every game and we did that this weekend," said Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilibur. "Claire had a great all-around game against UOP. The team played good defense, but a lapse in the third quarter really cost us that game."

Santa Clara led 5-3 at the half, but UOP rallied to score six times in the third quarter to change the game. Senior Laura Espinosa scored twice against UOP and in the two games Sunday she drew six kick outs and a five-meter penalty shot. Espinosa also scored in Sunday morning's game against No. 16 UC Davis. The Aggies were able to come away with a 13-6 win.

The Broncos also received solid play from starting goalkeeper Stephanie Clements in the cage. Clements saved 15 shots Sunday for an SCU team who will open up Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) play this weekend at UCSB's Invitational.
