SEASIDE, Calif. - Freshman Hannah Buck scored a team-high four goals to lead Santa Clara women's water polo to a 16-9 victory against Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday in the team's season opener.

Elizabeth Anderson, Kathryn Burke, Elle Surber and Blair Akerland each contributed a pair of goals for the Broncos who never trailed in the game.

The Otters (0-6) got as close as 5-4 in the second period, but the Broncos scored the next five goals. Surber's exclusion goal at the 5:23 mark of the third period made it 10-4.

Cal State Monterey Bay cut the deficit to 11-8 three minutes later, but the Broncos defense held the Otters to just one goal in the final 10 minutes of the game.

The Broncos play at Cal State East Bay at 1 p.m. Saturday.
