Men's Soccer Sends Off Its Seniors With A 1-0 Win Over San Diego

Box Score
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer sent off its seven seniors with a 1-0 win over San Diego to conclude its 2017 season on Saturday night at Stevens Stadium.

The Broncos (3-13-1, 3-3-1 WCC) took advantage of its fourth corner kick of the evening when junior Andres Jimenez cleanly tracked down the set piece kick from Javier Ruiz Duran's left foot and beat the Toreros (8-6-3, 2-3-2 WCC) goalkeeper Thomas Olsen for the game winner.  For Jimenez, it was his first goal of the season and the third assist for Ruiz Duran.

In a pre-match ceremony, seven Bronco seniors – Valdemar Andersen, Satoshi Chaffin, Carlos Delgadillo, Babacar Diallo, Jonathan Jarrett, Martin Riedler and Kyle Schumann – were honored with family and friends in tow.  Each senior got a starting nod in their final match donning a Bronco uniform.

In a fairly even match with limited scoring chances on either side, Santa Clara outshot the Toreros 11-7 including holding a 5-1 advantage on shots on goals.  Bronco goalkeeper Dakota Havlick was credited with one save to notch his second clean sheet of the season.

The Broncos finished the 2017 season going 3-4-1 in the last eight matches.
