Cold Shooting Hands Women's Basketball Loss to CSUN

Box Score

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Cold shooting and a double-double from Channon Fluker were too much for Santa Clara women's basketball to overcome in a 53-38 defeat Friday evening at home against CSUN.

After poor shooting from both teams in the first half, the Matadors (3-4) turned things around in the second half and shot 51.7-percent to finish 38.3-percent for the game. The Broncos (5-2) couldn't get their offense going until it was too late and shot just 24.6-percent for the day.

Fluker was a force for CSUN, scoring a game-high 27 on 13-for-18 shooting and grabbing 20 rebounds, tied for the second most against Santa Clara in program history, while also blocking three shots.

The Matadors started to heat up with five minutes to go in the third and scored 17 in a row over nearly seven minutes stretch their lead to 39-25. Fluker scored eight of the points and Santa Clara missed 11 straight from the field during the stretch.

The Broncos started to get some offense going after a layup by Lindsay VanAllen with 7:02 to go in the fourth and Emily Wolph found her stroke, scoring seven Santa Clara points in a row that cut the deficit to 49-38 with 2:05 left but it wasn't enough.

Wolph finished with a team-high 14 but was just 1-for-6 from beyond the arc. Ashlyn Herlihy scored seven and had a team-high 10 boards with Lauren Yearwood scoring five with six rebounds and three blocks.
